Padua, anciently called the “water city”, is one of the most important cultural and religious centre in Veneto (the second university and its Saint patron).

Program:
Meeting of the participants with the guide at 9,30 in Prato della Valle. From 10.00 to 11.00 visit of the Basilica of S. Antonio, one of the
most sacred celebrate monuments of the world. Antonio was born in 1195 in Lisbon, knew San Francesco in Assisi and passed the rest of its life in Padua until 1231, becoming the spiritual guide of poor, traders and politicians. A year after the death of the saint, began the construction of this imposing
Gothic-Romanesque basilica that attracts every year 5 million pilgrims who pray on the renaissance tomb of S. Antonio in order to ask the grace and to visit the sacred relics. Wonderful the three cloister with magnolia and
the equestrian monument of Gattamelata made by Donatello in 1450. Visit to the school of the saint and to the oratory of saint George.

Lunch in restaurant with typical menu (12.30-14.00).
In the afternoon walk in the centre of the city: Caffè Pedrocchi, university and squares.
It will be continued until the Scrovegni Chapel, built by the usurer banker Enrico Scrovegni. It was entire frescoed by Giotto in 1305 with history of the virgin and Christ. Must be mentioned the famous Deposition from the cross and enormous moving Universal
judgment on the income wall, inspired to Dante’s hell who mentioned also the father of the Scrovegni. The Scrovegni Chapel, treasure of international gothic painting, was restored in 2002 and attracts every day
hundred of visitors fascinate from this exciting travel into the religious painting of the Middle Age. Visit and end of the excursion.
